Helen Panarites, MD

Interim Program Manager, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist 

Helen Panarites, MD, joined the faculty at Marcus Autism Center as a Child Psychiatrist in 2007. She received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and completed her adult psychiatric residency training at the New York Hospital-Westchester Division in White Plains, N.Y. In 1992, she moved to Atlanta for her child psychiatry residency training at Emory University School of Medicine, where she was chief resident in child psychiatry.

After residency, Dr. Panarites joined the faculty at Emory University in the division of child psychiatry as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and served as medical director of the Grady Health System Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. She trained Emory University medical students, psychiatry residents, child psychiatry residents and psychology interns. In 2002, she left Emory University to pursue private practice for several years and worked for the DeKalb Community Service Board.

In her current position at Marcus Autism Center, Dr. Panarites sees children and adolescents for psychiatric medication management of symptoms associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She also provides medicine management of co-morbid conditions of ADHD, anxiety disorders, mood disorder, and disruptive behavior disorders. She works in close collaboration with Marcus Autism Center psychologists on various treatment teams to provide comprehensive care.

In July 2018, Dr. Panarites was appointed to Interim Program Manager of the medical services team. In this role, she supervises nurse practitioners at Marcus Autism Center and administratively oversees medical services. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Emory University in the Department of Pediatrics, and teaches and supervises residents.
